The red light shone through the rain speckled window screen creating an eerie glow on Akira’s face. Her fingers tapped the steering wheel of the black Subaru in annoyance, this had been the third traffic light in a row that had stopped the Malkavian in her tracks and the thing that made it worse was that the roads were empty. If she did happen to see anyone else she would have been surprised as in her experience half three in the morning was not a common time for people to be nipping out to the local shops. Finally the lights flashed to Amber and then to Green and the car began to accelerate away, that was until the next set of traffic lights.
Swearing loudly Akira flicked on the car radio in the sheer want of company but the drown of a tired taxi driver moaning about how the Prime Minster had got everything wrong and how he could do a better job was not exactly the kind of company she wanted after a long drive. The radio present tried to defend the PM but was soon put back in place but the taxi driver listing off how all MP’s were liars and cheats. With a small huff in disagreement Akira turned the radio off again and rested her head back on the headrest and just stared at the red light.
The lights followed there sequence yet again and a green light filled the car but Akira did not move anywhere. Her gaze was fixed on something moving on the opposite side of the road. At first she thought it was just a local tramp, maybe even a drunk lost on their way home but it was moving too swiftly. Frowning Akira quickly hit speed dial on her phone and waited patiently for the sound of the on night team to come down her Bluetooth.
“Morning Lorak.” Akira gave a small smile at the low grumble from the other end. “Has anyone sensed any disturbance down North-West…” she was cut off as Lorak began to frantically hit some keys and she could just imagine the screens reflecting in the mans horn rimmed glasses.
“There is something, I could try and use the CTV cameras…” he muttered back
“It’s moving to quickly” Akira commented and it was soon backed up by a list of expletives coming down her Bluetooth. “Wake up Connolly, maybe even Luthen as I have a feeling I will need them, I shall head off in the direction it went.”
The groan down the other end made her laugh even more as the phone connection cut out, but this time Akira did not mind being left alone, she had a chase on. Ignoring the fact the traffic light was on red the Malkavian floored the accelerate and with a screech of tyre smoke and the Subaru searching for grip on the wet road she headed off in the direction the creature went. Sliding the car around the corner the sat-nav on the dashboard started to moan that she was going the wrong way but Akira was having too much fun to even pay any attention to it. The back end of the car was hanging out as she went full throttle around a street corner.
At the end of the street there was movement, a thin figure, almost feminine looking however Akira did not get a good look. The head lights were only briefly passed over it as she was trying to correct the sideways moment she was having. The sound of thuds and clatters meant that she had knocked over a few dustbins but she could not lose sight of her target and a small satisfied smile filled her face when she relied there was no where for it to go, they had hit a dead end.
Quickly undoing her seatbelt Akira leaned over to the glove pocket on the passenger side of the car and pulled out her Phoenix (her handgun) and torch, placing them into her coat pocket before kicking open the door. Running to the end of the street she noticed a small ally way, which must have been the way the creature went. Flicking on her torch she jogged down the ally keeping her eyes peeled yet the one thing she did not expect to find was a Skate Park and a woman standing on top on of the ramps.
Clicking off her torch she reached for her gun, slowly Akira flicked off the safety and gripped the Phoenix tightly in her hand ready to rapidly pull the trigger just in case the woman was not going to be friendly.
