Personality: Liam has a carefree attitude some say he cares for none than himself and he admits he’s fully for self preservation, as such he’s been viewed as cold and heartless, something he’s never particularly argued against for reputation can be everything, yet saying that when he wants to be he can be a charmer, manipulative even, he can work people into tricky situations where he can best deal with them. He has a way with words and is able to persuade others round to his point of view yet he never appears very serious and often wears a grin, even, if not especially, in the heat of battle. He delights in fighting and loves to stand toe to toe with any enemy, he prefers hand to hand combat where he can use his superior muscle and quick reflexes to despatch most foes but he’s also a proficient shot with rifles and usually carries a number of handguns hidden about his person. His joking about anything and everything has led people to believe him completely unfeeling which isn’t entirely true, as he loved and lost a long time ago, his family was incredibly important to him but one by one they have been taken away from him, each time he’s become increasingly brazen and taught himself to gradually care about nothing except himself. It’s true that he loves himself above all others now, which would make him very arrogant if he showed it too much, anyone who knows, or even better understands, his past knows why he has become this way through circumstance rather than birth.
Family and History: A Lycan at birth Liam had no choices in life, something he struggled to come to terms with when he was young as he was rebellious and wished to carve a life of his own, but his heavy handed, fierce father; John “Gutter” Seymour, had something to say about that and severely dealt with his wayward son, making sure he trained rigorously to become a strong Lycan like he was. His father was a tyrant but he had the muscle and strength to dominate his family quite completely, he was tough but as he continually explained it was necessary for his sons and daughters to survive in the dangerous world that they lived in.
But the wilful Liam continually disobeyed his father venturing out into the centre of Manchester, which was little more than a town in the 18th century, and the centre stage for Vampire and Lycan battles, during the daylight hours when he should have been training in hand to hand combat as part of his father’s rigorous, bordering cruel, training regime. Instead of obeying his father’s wishes Liam snuck out acting as a human amidst the growing population of Manchester, if there had been a job worth taking, not below his station, he would have taken it, but there was mainly factory work and he couldn’t really divulge his family connections to get places. So he contented himself with drinking and gambling at the local taverns gaining himself quite the reputation as the charmer. Unlike his trusted father Liam was spurned somewhat by his fellow Lycans who believed him generally too friendly towards humans, some even called him soft, but though he was young Liam was, and always has been, a strong and skilled fighter able to handle himself in most situations with his natural agility and quick reflexes that he would have had even if he weren’t a Lycan. With his brothers and sisters Liam had plenty of competition, but unlike them he didn’t yearn for his father’s affections and respect, nor did he yearn for a great power like his eldest brother Graham did in particular. He enjoyed fighting a lot, and got into several brawls with other Lycans, some not so friendly and he developed a reputation as a resourceful, hardened fighter who never gave up, the problem fellow Lycans had with him was that he didn’t put his skills to good use tearing out the hearts of Vampires, he didn’t have the patience upon the long, drawn out raids that rarely became full battles, that was until one Ranvier Flynn finished off Greg, his preferred sibling whom he’d had much in common with. Angered Liam had joined his family in the hunt for the ever elusive Ranvier but he ever stayed one step ahead of the Lycans, setting upon them when they least expected it, and killing the followers the reputed John Seymour had garnered over the years, being an influential Lycan family they had gained much support within the Lycan camp, the Seymours had been around since the beginning, or thereabouts as Liam would admit.
In 1763 Liam developed an affection upon a dazzlingly beautiful, young lady of a wealthy family within Manchester his relations were soon cut short when his family learnt of the pathetic crush on a mere human as they’d put; he received quite a pounding for that as the male Seymours; namely John, Graham and David believed in violent reactions to everything and were governed entirely by their hearts and the blood pounding in the thrill of the moment, Liam took after his mother; Fiona a little more, who was cold and calculating and had chosen the marriage with John Seymour merely for the connections and power than for love. Beaten to a pulp Liam became intrusive for a time, but soon shook off the blows both physical and mental, told the girl would be killed if he continued his ridiculous obsession with her he was forced to bid her adieu breaking her heart in the process, the worst thing was that Liam never knew what her life was ultimately like, she could have been the happiest woman on earth, contentedly married with dozens of tiny children with brilliant prospects for all he knew, but he’d always remember the crushed devastation and deep sorrow in her eyes when he’d left.
He never saw Anne Barnett again.
One person was there to help him shake off his sorrow, ever his friend and mentor, Hrothgar Melling was a fairly old Lycan who’d been absorbed into the ranks after a Lycan had seen his prowess upon the battlefield of Hastings itself in 1066, he’d become a strong and able general within the Lycan ranks, a Lycan everyone could trust, he’d seen a potential in Liam for a time, and knew he was the sort of person necessary for change, that oldsters, himself included where behind the times and Lycans like Liam needed to pave the way for the future, he continually advised Demetrius against involving the humans in the war between the Lycans and Vampires, as a fellow general, a respected one at that; Corbett Vavasour came up with the idea of using the humans as shields as the Vampires were loath to kill them when it was unnecessary. Hrothgar took Liam under his wing as it were, teaching him to cool his head a little, a difficult task and one that still isn’t entirely done nevertheless he helped Liam through that troubled time and many more afterwards, seeing himself in the youngster somehow.
Now Liam’s mother had ideas far above her station and with poisonous words she persuaded her eldest son Graham that he was strong enough to lead the Lycans and supplant Demetrius, all they needed to do was assassinate him by clever means then claim leadership. Graham was sorely tempted though made the cardinal error of confiding in his father whose loyalty lay utterly with his lord, even above his family who were mere tools to him in comparison. John informed Demetrius of the daring plan that had taken years of preparation, pointing the finger of blame at his deceitful wife and eldest son and watched in 1775 with mingled satisfaction and horror as Demetrius tore them limb from limb, suffice to say that put paid to anyone foolish enough to vie for the Lycan leadership with the fearsome lord.
During the next 100 years or so Liam was cruelly tested, the Seymour family was shamed and thus spurned and his father’s vicious hand fell upon Liam in particular more and more. The family, Liam included, worked hard to regain their Lord’s trust and redoubled their efforts in their continued fight against the Vampires.
