It was a cold, rainy day, had been raining all morning when Nova decided she would go to the lake. It was an inexplicable urge to simply go to the water side and those sorts of urges she never ignored, even when the weather didn't want her to. The weather persisted on being abusive as she jogged closer towards the lake along the road, the little drizzle turning into something a little harder. The tall blond woman ignored it and continued to jog on.
Her loud music was blaring in her ears from the small headphones plugged into the music player strapped to her arm. Nova didn't like silence so went everywhere with her player. Silence was unnerving and her unnerved often lead to injury. It had happened on may occasions when she was younger, that she had ended up burning either Caroline or Martin, the two house keepers who took care of her. Though she felt sorry for doing it she never said so because they were servants and you were never sorry to servants.
Such thoughts on the past stayed firmly in the back of Nova's mind, where she didn't have to think about them, as she jogged on, her dark hair, fastened behind her head, swishing limply from side to side. The rhythm carried her to the lake side and before she knew it she was there, jogging along the shore line. When the urge to take a breather came, Nova simply walked to a tree and lent against it, breathing hard and feeling her blood pumping though her veins.
Under the shelter of the tree, Nova was safe from the rain so lazily threw her back against the soft bark of the tree and slid down till she was sitting. Her dark eyes scanned the water and the opposite shore line restlessly. This was quickly becoming tedious. Removing one headphone from an ear, Nov began to throw it up and catch it, searching for something better to do. Nothing happened. She dropped the headphone and generated an energy ball in her hand and she began to toss that about, not really feeling the heat that it exuded.
Finding the mind-numbingness dull, Nova sprawled her long legs on the soft grass, wondering as she caught the engery ball if there would be any other people gallivanting about in this weather. She had not thought that for three seconds before a twig cracked behind her. Nov jumped to her feet and spun around, a headphone swinging around her neck.

The slow drops of rain fell from the dark clouds that hung glumly in the skies above, it always amazed Akira even after so much time spent on the earth how just droplets of water could cause so much chaos to the world around them. People ran for cover in fear of getting wet, road rage increases as people get dazzled by the high beam lights from approaching cars and the dustbins mysteriously fill up with broken umbrellas. The human race was truly becoming wasteful! However today was not a day for Akira to preach to those around her about the importance of protecting the planet from global warming by recycling, today was a day to hunt down some Lycans.
If you passed Akira in the street you would not have looked at her twice, her long black coat, although slightly sodden by the rain, hid all the guns and gadgets that she had hidden away. Her hair was roughly tied up into a bun while the bottom of her jeans and her trainers were covered in dirt from the pervious night’s excursion into the forest trying to hunt down some vampires. The fact that the mission had failed had not impressed Akira and so as a result a slight frown was spread across the Malkavians face as she continued to walk head on into the rain.
“Akira…” The sound of someone saying her name did not take the woman by surprise, in fact she just went ’hmmm’ in response waiting for the rest of the sentence to be stuttered out by the guys back at HQ. “We are getting some readings you might want to take a look at. CCTV spotted a large, dog like creature at the outskirts of the city.” There was a long pause and Akira could hear the mans nervous clicking of a pen down the line as he waited for an answer, although when it came it was not much of an answer just a simple. “I am on it.”
Back tracking to the short stay car park where Akira had parked the Ferrari, (it was the only car left, Team 3 had the SUV while Luthan had stolen SUBARU to go and check out something one of the seers had sensed down south) and made her way out of the main city centre. The coordinates had been sent to her GPS and so all she had to do was follow the dot, only slight problem was the dot kept moving.
The area surrounding Manchester was a lot more serene then the concert tower blocks that blocked out the sky. Akira truly hated the city and the amount of times she had contemplated moving the whole HQ to the countryside was insane but it was only when she thought about the logistics and having to move all of her stuff did she back out of the idea. Power sliding around the corners on the country road Akira let the full power of the Ferrari engine sound out, shattering the peace of the country side…well that was until something jumped out onto the road in front of her.
The car made contact with the beast and both came to a sudden halt, the airbag of the car was soon in Akira’s face but she had no time to asses damages, she was undoing her seatbelt, kicking open the door and reaching for her gun. The rain just bounced off the polished blue finish on her Phoenix hand gun as she held it out in front of her, safety off ready to fire at the Lycan if it dared make a move towards her. The lump of soggy wet fur stirred and its evil eyes landed upon the Malkavian leader and still Akira did not hesitate and quickly pulled the trigger sending a bullet spiralling through the air and wedging itself in the beasts chest, only inches away from its heart.
A cruel smile filled Akira's features as she thought about the look on Demetrius face when he heard that she had killed on of his ’children’…but the Lycan seemed to have other ideas. With a deafening howl it took a swipe at Akira knocking her too the ground before limping away as fast as it could over the fields, the head start would make a difference, there was no way in all this rain the rather sorry looking Ferrari would be able to go off road, which left Akira with only one choice!
Still feeling slightly dazed, Akira ran over the fields following the trail of blood that the Lycan was losing from the bullet wound. The Malkavian had no idea where she was being led but she had no time to call for back up, she was focusing completely on not falling over and steadying her breathing. Her feet pounded on the wet earth and as she dared to glace up from the path of blood she saw the lake, some trees and a person. Swearing to herself Akira changed course and made her way over towards the woman to try and resolve the situation, a quick bash to the head with the butt of her gun should do the trick, knock them out long enough to avoid being asked too many questions and remember anything else that was going on.
Akira was going to go for the silent approach, to make sure that she would not be remembered and the human would be oblivious to everything, but there was a slight problem and such an amateur mistake. She stepped on a twig. Chastising herself for being so careless she had to think fast as she was now standing face to face with the woman, gun in hand and a cut at the side of her face gently trickling with blood from where the Lycans claw had smashed into her.
“Good Afternoon, I was wondering if you had seen my dog?” A small smirk played across the Japanese woman’s features. “He is quite big, hard to miss and smells like well…wet dog.”
A small laugh escaped her and that was when Akira knew it had gone too far, formalities were over it was time for action before the Lycan got too far ahead. Still smiling Akira twisted her gun around in her hand, holding onto the barrel and exposing the handle and then with a measured amount of strength (from years of practise) Akira swung the gun at the woman’s head.

With the energy ball still in hand, Nova stared at the woman that had approached her. It was odd that it would be a woman of all people that would come across her in this place, but then again, it was strange that any sort of person would come across her here. The woman looked to be a few years older then she did, though from experience she knew that looks could be deceiving. The woman smiled at her and Nova smiled back, her full lips curving easily into a smile.
Nova reluctantly turned out the energy ball she had been tossing about. The last thing she wanted was some stranger asking questions. She listened to the woman half heartedly, Disturbed blaring in the other ear. A dog? What did she care for the woman's lost dog. She hadn't seen anything but the opposite side of the lake. “Sorry love,” Nova said sweetly, still smiling, “I ain't seen no animals today.”
It took her a moment but eventually Nova noticed another thing about the new comer: she had a gun in her hands. And what was she going to do with that? Shoot the dog. Something didn't sit well with Nova, something was off about this meeting but she just couldn't tell what. It only occurred to her a second later when the gun was pointed at her that she had never liked guns, them pointing at her or simply being around them.
Nova's smile faltered for a moment but then it grew wider. Knowing full well that she had something ten times more effective then any bullet. Slowly, Nov raised a pale hand to her eye level and wound her fingers around, summoning an energy ball. It shone a light blue against the dark greens of the surrounding trees. “Are you sure you wanna do that, ducky?” Nova said jestingly. It had been a few days since she had had to show off her special talents but she wasn't opposed to doing it in such a private location.
And so Nova stood, an energy ball poised at the ready to fly towards the woman at the slightest hint of hostility from her. Nov shifted her weight from foot to foot, still feeling her muscles twitching from her jog. Her heart began to race and hum in her ears as Disturbed hammered on …
Come on Can't you just leave it alone? It doesn't have any soul Just find a thing of your own And stop pretending to know
“Go on,” Nova whispered loudly, tauntingly, “make my day.”

Akira was in mid swing when the woman in front of her conjured a small ball of energy and that most defiantly caught her attention. Stopping herself from hitting the woman Akira dropt the gun on the floor and was too fascinated with the blue ball of energy to notice the Lycan in the distance. She cocked her eyebrow in intrigue and for a few seconds Akira was captivated and simply watched the woman control her ability, the energy ball swelling in her hand and to such an extent that no sparks were flying off willy-nilly.
“Impressive.” Not that she sounded all impressed, Akira was keeping all the emotion out of her voice. She had learnt from experience that when it came to dealing with strangers being too passionate could be a hindrance, defiantly when it came to something as sensitive as people’s special talents. “I would love to stay of a bit of show and tell.” The cruel little grin was spreading across her face once again. “But I have a dog to catch.”
Bending down the Malkavian picked up her Phoenix from the sodden grass before giving it a quick dry on her coat in fear that the dirt and water might tarnish the polished blue finish the gun had. Once Akira was convinced that her precious weapon was alright she jammed it back into its holster before quickly getting onto her Bluetooth.
“George…I lost the bugger and the GPS is in the car…care to lend me a hand?” It was more of an order then a request and the Malkavian at the end of the phone knew it. Akira could hear the frantic sound of keys being tapped as they tried to triangulate the singles. ‘It says you are standing right next to it.’ The confused voice answered back. ‘No, wait…ha wrong signal…er…ok it is 400 meters away, the local ordinate survey map puts him…’ “In between the trees.” Akira finished off his sentence and quickly cut the connection before they would dare ask about the other signal.
Thinking of the other signal that woman was still standing near her and with the ability to conjure balls of energy and then seeing Akira acting as if it was an every day occurance she was sure they would not be able to depart ljust ike that. Maybe it was time for a bit of showing off? Digging her hand into her coat pocket Akira pulled out her lighter and with a few flicks the flame jumped from the tip of the lighter to the Malkavians hand. Slowly the fireball grew bigger, the heat intensified and summoning as much energy as she dared use Akira sent it flying off into the trees why the Lycan was hiding.
“Show and tell.” She grinned back at the woman, all be it a little more out of breath then before.

The energy ball in Nova’s hand shimmered in the shade of the tree, throwing light up to her face. It was quite a pretty sight if it hadn’t been for the fact that she was using it to prevent her head from getting clobbered off by the butt of the gun. It wasn’t every day that she had to defend herself, after all it was usually she that was doing the bullying. Yes, she thought the woman was bullying her. What was her problem anyway? All Nov wanted was to be left alone, was that honestly too much to ask?
Apparently so. Never the less when the woman reached out to the ball, Nova simply watched, her brow furrowed with interest and confusion. The woman took the ball from her, literally scooped it out of her hand and held it for a moment. Nova was shocked, but all she did was look at the woman with her brow furrowed in thought. The only way to explain her behaviour was that she too could do what Nova did … she must be one like herself that Erick had told her about. God, she thought as she rolled her eyes to the sheltering canopy above them. She hadn’t thought about Erick in years.
And just like that, the energy ball was gone and the woman was back to her gun. Nova’s ability obviously wasn’t as amazing to this woman as it was to other less fortunate people and that was a little bit of an irritation to her. The woman began to speak again but not to her. This irritated her even more. If there was one thing Nova disliked more then being shown up it was being ignored. Being the nosy person she was, Nova listened in on the conversation and when the woman’s eyes flicked up Nov looked to the spot where the woman was. There was clearly something there.
It didn’t seem to want to be seen, whatever it was, and Nova sneered at its pathetic show. The woman opposite her dug in her pockets and removed a lighter. This was an odd time to light one up, Nova thought but when no cigarette was produced her dark eyes met the woman’s for a split second before they were both focusing on the flame. Exactly like Nova did when enlarging her energy orbs, the woman fed the flame ball, making it swell in ferocity before throwing it towards the whatever in the heavy brush.
Flames were messy, Nova decided, as the branches and leaves erupted into spitting fire. Her own energy balls were clean, searing rather then consuming. And it was true, the fire burst and lashed out at the greenery around it. The next moment a monstrous wet dog jumped out from behind the burning brush and roared at the two women. It seemed to have sustained some burns but they looked superficial. Nova knew that though her show wouldn’t have been as flashy it would do much more damage.
A challenge? Nova cocked one eyebrow and gave the woman a contemptible grin. “As you wish.”
Nova put the flat of her hands together, stretching her fingers wide, cupping the energy ball that began to form quickly, shimmering blue. She forced her arms out, hands still together, sending the ball flying directly to the heaving mass of wet fur and teeth. The energy ball hit the creature on the shoulder, the impact of it causing it to stumble back a few steps and to howl in pain. When it straightened again it was clear the damage it had caused: the gapping crater of a blackened wound that had formed was smoking, the surrounding fur burnt nearly right off.
“Causes pain and cauterises the wound,” Nova informed the other woman with a maniacal grimace.

Akira watched as this other woman used her own powers to help fight the Lycan, it was always interesting to see how other worked and harnessed their abilities, particularly the independent ones. Most end up with nasty little habits, like being cocky thinking that they are the only ones gifted with such abilities. This woman too seemed to believe that she was the only one who knew the ability and its benefits.
“Oh I know!” Akira smiled smugly at the other woman. “My second in command can do it, very useful in the heat of battle but the only problem is it never kills the beast’s quick enough.”
Reaching back to her gun the Malkavian pulled it out of its holster and for a second just held the weapon, enjoying the feeling of the cold metal on the palm of her hands after conjuring the fireball. Slowly Akira raised her arm, the gun gripped tightly in her hand and her finger hovering over the trigger just itching to pull it and send the bullet flying into the ball of wet fur. She waited; squinting threw the rain, waiting for that perfect moment where optimum damage could be done and this ridiculous chase could end.
Eventually the creature stopped thrashing around stood up straight looking directly at the two women standing in front of it. The purple eyes of Akira met the dark grey of the Lycans and even though they were contort with pain and even then the Malkavian leader could not offer the beast an inch of pity. Her finger quickly flicked backwards and forwards sending off a whole magazine of bullets at the creature’s chest, each shot sending what seemed like an everlasting bang across the silent lake and its surroundings.
Smoke was pouring out the end of the Phoenix by the time Akira had lowered it to her side, slowly she lifted her feet from the ground. She had dug her feet into the ground to help brace herself from recoil with every shot. The rain continued to pour down around them as the Lycan dropt to its knees and fell to the now crimson grass as it took its last breaths. But Akira had not seen this, she was too busy inspecting her gun and drying it off once again before placing it back in its holster. With her job done and the crisis diverted Akira thought she would turn her attention to the other signal that HQ had told her about…the other woman.
“So on the paper work who do I say aided me and caused that nice little wound on the creatures shoulder?”
