An indomitable rage had a firm hold upon Liam as he drove his fists over and over into the punchbag before him. He circled his prey, darting in and smashing his bleeding knuckles in vicious uppercuts as he continually pounded the punchbag that swung wildly about threatening to knock him over if he wasn’t quick, an animalistic roar rose from deep within in him, he jumped a few paces back then charged in keeping low his fist connecting with such force that the heavy chain attaching the punchbag to the ceiling nearly wasn’t enough to hold it up. With the roar leaving his body it took with it the anger and he sagged, exhausted he fell to the cold ground, sweat dripping from his bare-chested body, he’d received onlookers at the beginning of his training, the younger Lycan females whiling away their time admiring the muscular forms of the males and vice versa of course, but on seeing his pent-up frustration released in pure aggression they’d quit the chamber, going for the main training quad area that was open to the elements, that was where Liam now headed, slipping out into the darkness and wiping the sweat from his body as he merged with the crowd viewing the main fight, for all the Lycans loved to tussle, and the largest square in the centre was where the best contests were often found as brutal veterans fought themselves to standstills generally. Often one champion would stand in the ring and take on all comers, the brash and eager younglings rushing to their inevitable defeat, but sometimes there was the odd surprise and tonight was proving to be one of them.
Whereas Liam had vented his anger through beating an immovable object that couldn’t fight back, some would say a cowards way but the last time Liam had fought someone at the height of his anger he’d broken both of their arms, they’d healed though had naturally born a grudge against Liam ever since. Craig on the other hand was fighting to clear his anger, and fighting remarkably well too, unlike poor Jason buried not two days ago, Craig was a wily and shrewd oppenant, he hadn’t let a rage take him like Liam would do, but had rather used it to his advantage defeating the older Lycan with surprising speed as the elder had decided to go easy on him…
That was what Max was now eagerly informing Liam as he gestured for him to join him, Liam had easily shoved another Lycan aside to take front row seats to watch his protégé in action, settling down upon the front bench of the stands that ringed centre stage.
“…so the boy gave him a vicious uppercut, like your narsty one, I bet he learnt it from you eh?” Jabbered Max grinning, though his eyes were riveted, like all others, upon the tense fight before them, it wasn’t everyday that a young Lycan even got to this centre stage so quite a raucous crowd had gathered, with Lycans always so eager to watch a good fight.
“He’s quick all round our Craig,” agreed Liam watching Craig deftly defend himself against the overeager lunges of a Lycan similar in age, he paid the price as the merciless Craig used the Lycan’s forward momentum against him and sent him sprawling into the dust. Liam nodded in satisfaction as he was jabbed in the ribs, “hey,” he growled threateningly before he realised who was to blame; Fiona laughed delightedly always enjoying bristling Liam’s fur, that’s why he tried to ignore her.
“Your boy’s doing well out there Liam,” she commented pursing then licking her lips as she watched Craig, swipe the legs from under his hasty assailant.
“Don’t you go getting any ideas Fiona,” growled Liam, knowing full well her reputation, going for any and every good looking Lycan, she’d even had Demetrius one time she’d bragged, though Liam couldn’t quite believe that tall tale. “Besides he’s not up against any good yet, he’ll finish this idiot off any second…” as if hearing his tutor’s words Craig knocked aside a fist that was aimed high for his head and got through the lad’s defences jabbing his chest then finishing off with his signature uppercut, the lad stumbled then fell back outside the white chalk line of the ring. Liam was the first to jump up leading the tumultuous applause he yelled, “good on yer kid!” Bringing his palms together loudly so Craig would notice his mentor’s congratulations. “He’s stole my move though,” he grumbled on sitting back down, to which Fiona mockingly pouted and grabbed his cheeks saying “diddums,” hastily retracting her delicate fingers before they were bitten off, “you’re pleased for him really.” She added with a laugh, to which Liam grudgingly agreed, “course I am.” Then he looked up to see Craig’s next opponent, it was basically whoever was quickest to reach the white circle first.
“Oh bugger,” breathed Liam, seeing the infamous Brutus whose namesake ran true as he was utterly brutal on the field of battle, he’d fought alongside Brutus many a time, and respected him as a Lycan capable of killing Vampires and Malkavians alike, but he didn’t like his overly brutal methods, he’d blame Brutus’ lack of honour but Liam was entirely dishonourable too. “Well Craig’s gonna get his ass kicked.” Groaned Liam, not particularly upset at all, everyone had their place really, you couldn’t rise up the ranks before your time; he’d learnt that the hard way.
“Yee of little faith,” purred Fiona, but Max butted in for Liam, “it’s Brutus, hardly anyone beats bloody Brutus.” Max really was the man to know all about these fights, Liam had seen him document them, and he had to wonder how much of a Lycan the scrawny Max really was.
The fight had already begun in earnest as the crowd hushed on seeing Brutus, so the crunch of Brutus’ large, beefy fist connecting with Craig’s chest was easily audible, accompanied with the obligatory gasp from the crowd, but being Lycans there was also the audible laughs and Liam knew there would be a smile of satisfaction on seeing such a powerful blow; all Lycans loved a good fight. Somehow the wiry Craig managed to not land outside the white ring, and scrambled away nursing his bruised ribs before Brutus could follow up on his advantage. Liam had known the fight had been over before it had begun but he enjoyed it while it lasted as Craig managed to land a few decent blows upon the larger Lycan, but was unable to capitise on the blows as they hadn’t really had the effect on the brute that was Brutus as they would have felled lesser Lycans. With a deafening roar a mighty hand clasped about Craig’s throat and he was easily held aloft, Craig tried in vain to kick in Brutus’ face but Brutus had been ready for it and blocked the boots with his other beefy hand that formed a formible defence, just as his other squeezed the life out of Craig, Liam’s growl was in fact audible about the training area as he clenched his fists hating seeing Brutus prolong Craig’s suffering and humiliation. Yet he did nothing, nobody could interfere, those were the rules of the fights here…oh screw the rules, when have I abided by them before? He yelled inwardly feeling his body instinctively move, even before his mind had made up the course of unlawful action, propelling himself forward he sprang from the bench into the white ring, scant feet away and let out his a deep throated snarl of goading, allowing Brutus just enough time to fling the semi-concious Craig from the ring, before lunging towards him, driving his shoulder into his chest and knocking the larger Lycan to the ground. He’d used surprise to his advantage but already the large Brutus was kicking him away. Landing heavily upon his back the stocky Liam, leapt up with agility as Brutus heaved himself aloft, darting in Liam aimed for his stomach hoping to wind the larger Lycan, but a heavy blow connected with his skull, knocking him dazedly aside. Keeping his footing Liam ducked one strike, but failed to counter a large fist coming from below that struck his lower ribs, cracking them painfully and jolting him momentarily skywards before he landed upon his back once more. He’d known this was a bad idea, especially now the pain of his shattered ribs was flaring up, but his instincts were still driving him, pushing away the pain, and reacting by kicking the legs from under Brutus, keep the big buggers down one piece of useful information his dad had actually given him, and Liam meant to. Sitting up Laim curled his legs up into a crouching positon and propelled himself forward onto the big Lycan as he tried to rise. He’d kept him down but he hadn’t counted upon Brutus completely ignoring the blows that Liam rained down upon him and instead shoving him sideways and rolling atop of Liam. Knowing the only way out Liam smirked, kneeing the big man in his privates, and using his upper body strength to help Brutus on his way over him. Stumbling to his feet, Liam was oblivious to everything around him as he savagely kicked Brutus in the side, just as something hit him in the back; hard, pushing him forwards Liam tripped over Brutus and felt a heavy weight still upon him as he fell. Now the weight of sound came with it, and he realised that he wasn;t in a solitary fight with Brutus anymore; this was a fully fledged brawl, as bodies fell all about him and the cacophony of raucuous noise rose to the heavens, curses, laughter and screams of pain all about him merging to form a heavy roar of noise. Elbowing whoever was upon him, he slipped from beneath the Lycan, to find heavy boots raining down upon him; Brutus supporters then, or Brutus’ brutes as Liam wanted to call them. Blinking in a paroxysm of pain, for the ribs were hurting like hell, he scrambled away, as the press of bodies knocked into his assailants, hands grabbed his shoulders, friendly hands hauling him aloft and a voice spoke into his ear, “let’s get the buggers.” Still dazed Liam couldn’t tell who was on whose side in the blurring motion of fast moving bodies in the massive brawl that he’d started. But what the hell, he’d started it, so he might as well try to finish it too, growling to cover his grumbles of pain he flung himself into the melee, kicking and punching all in his path, and receiving many blows, particularly about his now bloodied arms and chest, in return…he really did love a good brawl.
