the truth of me you’ll never know, just take me for what I am to you
Personality: Ruby is governed by her impulses, she doesn’t particularly follow general rules of society and does what she wishes, whenever she wants to. Ruby is utterly carefree, it isn’t that she cares for nobody but herself, it’s that she cares too much almost, she knows she’s destructive in any sort of relationship, and yet she can’t help herself, plus she doesn’t like to be tied down, to start depending on others as they end up letting her down. She’s never been a team player, preferring to act alone so she doesn’t hurt others, she doesn’t want any sort of responsibilities in life, nothing to tie her down or keep her anywhere.
She suffers from wild mood swings, one moment she’ll be hugging you, the next punching you, her anger can flare up at a moment’s notice and is utterly destructive. She knows this and so tries to spurn the company of others as much as possible, the only way she can be around others, the only way she feels comfortable around them is when she’s flirting, it’s the only way she really knows.
Ruby panics under pressure, particularly under fire, she reacts entirely impulsively trusting her instincts rather than any ingrained training, really she trusts to luck and fate, she believes she has some sort of destiny…otherwise she wouldn’t have survived this long.

History:
Ruby was brought up in a normal working class family, her parents worked hard to earn a crust, her father in the factories during the day, her mother looking after her and trying to get a basket business up and running, one that had always been doomed to failure. At night her father drank himself into a stupor, squandering the little money he earned while her mother paid the rent by offering her services to the landlord. For Ruby that was an ordinary life, her parents loved her dearly but they couldn’t provide much for her and they struggled in the slums of London. Things went from bad to worse in 1937 when Rachel was killed in mysterious circumstances, her father flew into a rage knowing it was murder and so he took his revenge on the disgraced man; that was the first time Ruby saw the sparks fly from his hands, burning the landlord to a cinder. Her father was arrested, when Ruby was only fifteen, she only found out later that it was Section 13 that had imprisoned her dad, with supposedly no family to take care of her she was put in a care home.
Before she had been there a month though, a kind lady from Manchester arrived, saying she could help out Ruby. Given the choice of escaping the place where she received a terrible lashing for the trouble she caused, spurning the other children and getting into fights, so embittered was she that her father was in prison not for a crime that he didn’t commit but for an act she believed hadn’t been a crime at all Ruby took after her father and flew into blind rages, completely unable to control her emotions she was extremely wilful and did whatever she pleased, which brought retribution down upon her. When teased she burned her tormentors, mostly by accident as her wild emotions took control over her, and seen to be physically harming the other children she was classed as a difficult child, more regularly beaten than the rest. So it was in fact no choice at all to leave, jumping at the opportunity Ruby accompanied the lady to Manchester, where her eyes were opened into the reality of what she was; a Malkavian who could wield, awesome but terrible power.
Ruby was not a fast learner, she found it incredibly difficult to channel and control her power, thus received many a burn at her own hand, even though the Malkavians did their best to help her it was never quite enough. She was rather lazy and did little training, yet was still the envy of all around with her stunning body, she did find that she was a dab hand with a gun, and liked her knives, but she kept her skills mainly hidden, not wishing to be chosen to fight against the Lycans and Vampires, for she was simply afraid of being killed.
In 1942 when most of the elder males had gone off to fight in the 2nd world war she was glad she couldn’t have been wrapped up in that, but the Malkavians required her power more and more to push back the Vampire and Lycan attacks. One dark night the group she was in was ambushed and all died but her, she claimed she’d managed to elude the Lycans, the reality was that she’d fled. Savouring the minor fame she received for surviving such an attack; it was shortlived as it was deserved, when Danielle, a woman she much admired crawled in and with her last breath spoke the truth; that Ruby had fled in fear.
Now mistrusted and spurned by her companions not even her feminine wiles were sufficient, so she stole a precious artefact from Malkavian Headquarters in revenge and fled back to the war strewn London in 1943 when she could take the shifty glances from her former friends no more.
Deciding to forget the Malkavians and their ridiculous war, that was as worse as the world war she instead recklessly wanted to utterly live life to the full. Unlike most people she felt entirely comfortable around others, flirting easily with them and moving from man to man, nearly like the vampire she would become, sucking them dry of money, she believed it her due, and it was their fault for being so stupid as to believe her in the first place; she was selling her services, but at a high price. Living a haphazard dangerous life Ruby was young and carefree, she had the unnerving confidence and allure to have any man she wanted, she was fickle, uncaring…until she bumped into Jenna. She’d met dazzling, beautiful women before, but none quite as genuinely nice as the young nurse Jenna. They’d got along easily, becoming fast friends, better than sisters and then more. The couple complimented themselves perfectly, Ruby helped Jenna toss aside her troubles but Jenna critically humanised Ruby, showing her up really, and so Ruby tried to better herself for Jenna.
Neither asked questions, or demanded anything of the other, yet they still chatted easily, somehow skirting around subjects relating to their professions. They enjoyed their carefree lifestyle, they didn’t live well, but they didn’t live in poverty either so they were fine, and both were quite happy to reject the marriage proposals even by the most handsome eligible bachelors; because they had each other. For several years things went fine, with the odd upheaval as Ruby’s profession forced her to move about a bit.
By 1966, the girls were still happy together, until Ruby was persuaded to return to Manchester, a decision she has regretted ever since, why did they have to ruin something so good? If she’d been truthful with Jenna from the outset, then they would never have gone anywhere near accursed Manchester, as it was she refused to tell Jenna the truth, and paid for her lack of honesty.
When Malkavians turned up at their door Ruby had panicked, her wild emotions taking control as she blasted the men that, had to her mind, come to arrest and torture her. She’d given Jenna a choice then, which hadn’t been a choice at all, Jenna would never have left those men to suffer, but in fear of further retribution Ruby did what she did best, and fled.
For the two years Ruby was torn, she wanted to see and be with Jenna again, but she feared for her life, she worried that the Malkavians would want their revenge, she feared the worst that she had murdered those men, and their burnt faces, the acrid smell of charred flesh haunted her dreams. Throwing herself with reckless abandon back into her crazy lifestyle she wanted to forget everything, to drive it all from her mind, save the memories of Jenna, she’d happily keep those.
In 1968 she met Robbie, the man destined to be cruelly tested by her fickle heart and wayward nature, yes she’d been attracted to him, but more than his handsome looks it had been curiosity, curiosity on seeing the briefest look of disgust that he’d shot her, she’d been captured by that look, and that had enflamed her senses, drawing her to him. Course it had only been a one night stand, she had no idea what impact she had had on him, or on the countless others, such a breaker of hearts was she.
Ruby didn’t encounter Robbie again until 1974, in the meantime she had an unsuccessful marriage with Edgar Pontif and several flings before, during and after. She also tried her luck with several jobs and professions, but hadn’t a knack for a single one, it seemed that flirtation and seduction really was her thing, it was all she was good at, so she had to stick to what she knew. Two people sprang to her mind time and time again, not only Jenna, but Robbie, try as she might she couldn’t just forget him, several nights after their one night stand she’d plucked up her courage to go back, but had found that he’d already cleared out, and she had no way of finding him, no way of contacting him, all her relationships were screwed it seemed, by her own hand.
Yet in 1974 their paths crossed again, fate bringing them together in an almighty clash once more, a clash that had proved to Ruby the passion and truth of his feelings, and that had stirred her own emotions up once again, and it wasn’t just a crush. Unlike most people she actually cared what he thought of her, and to her that was a big deal. Deciding she had to give a relationship an actual shot once more, that though it would bring back painful memories of Jenna she’d still get past that, so she’d persevered for once in her life, persuading Robbie of the truth of her affections just as she only came to realise them herself.
Both knew what the other was like, so neither ever suggested marriage, but they were content as a couple, with a vibrant, strange lifestyle of touring Europe, with Benedetto tagging along there was always a tension, and Robbie often became jealous at the slightest flirting that Ruby could help herself with. The cracks in their relationship, due namely to Ruby’s main flaw, were obvious and were always there, but their infatuation got them through that for a time, until their tempers clashed one too many times and their relationship ended in fireworks, just how it had begun.
The year was 1975 when their relationship fell into ruin, Ruby was distraught but couldn’t think of a way to deal with her immense flaw of flirtation, hating herself for the first time she went back to Manchester, her sorrow outweighing her fear, in the vain hope that she would find Jenna once more, and renew their relationship somehow. But before she could find Jenna she encountered another; Ranvier Flynn, who renewed her carefree attitude, saving her from arriving at Jenna’s door tear strewn and depressed. They got along easily, and in her worn and wearied state Ruby found herself more susceptible to crushes, or else it was his broad shoulders and dashing good looks that won her over, he offered her a way out, and she took it, quite desperately and realising the full implications until later, that’s what you got for acting too impulsively. You could say she learned the hard way, but that wouldn’t be true, because she never did learn and continually made the same mistakes again, for she didn’t view them as mistakes so much, just things that happened; it was fated to be.
Adaptable Ruby isn’t, but suited to the life of a vampire she was. In truth she found it difficult, and tiresome to train so much during the night and day, and she never wished to go out patrolling, preferring the safety of the mansion, but with Ranvier’s help, with him at her side she was emboldened and able to go out more frequently as time went by. Now unafraid to show her natural aptitude for shooting she was still awful at hand to hand fighting but worked to improve herself knowing that this life was how it had to be, no longer could enjoy the free life she’d led. She learnt the hard way as a young vampire that she couldn’t just leave and live a life of her own, when she was badly burnt by the sun, if it hadn’t been for Ranvier’s quick wits and reflexes her dazzling beauty would have been ruined.
To begin with Ruby struggled to adjust to the new lifestyle, it took well over a year for her to become comfortable once more, and to actually have the stamina, endurance and urge to train herself up, for this society was different to the one she’d been brought up in, she wasn’t spurned at all, her talents were sought after, nurtured rather than quelled, she was accepted more readily for who she was, and so she gradually became more vampiric as the years went on, adjusted to the lifestyle and enjoying life fully again, who knows what is in store for her in the future though? Jenna and Robbie still play painfully on her mind, and she sometimes wishes her relationship with Ranvier was a little more, but her nature isn’t to be tied down, steadily she has been leaving the mansion and venturing further afield more and more, she doesn’t quite know what it is she’s searching for, but she’ll know when she finds it.
