The desire for blood was overpowering, the scent enflamed her senses, she rarely killed for it, but tonight she was sorely tempted so strong was the urge. Eyes flying open as she dreamt of sinking her fangs into a succulent ribbed male, she jolted awake, panting for breath, her chest rising and falling rapidly as she slipped from beneath the covers, blazing green eyes peering about the always darkened dormitory, seeing the others all slumbered she stood, selecting a long, near transparent, red dress over the top of her crimson corset, draping a light shawl over her shoulders to complement it. Sliding her feet into a pair of high heels she swept from the room, eagerly heading for kitchens, but remaining at a gentle pace so she didn’t attract any stares. Inclining her head respectfully towards the few vampires she passed, Ruby had a quick conversation with one, a friend of hers who noticed her edginess and allowed her to rush off to the kitchens.
Gliding as serenely as any vampire could she swept past the cooks, busy preparing the evening meal, that counted as breakfast for the vampires, opening one of the many fridges she selected a large pack and heart beating faster she tore into it, unable to contain herself as she ripped the packet, fangs protruding as she sucked up the blood, then fell to her knees lapping it up, all thoughts of grace forgotten in the moment of ecstasy, but it was still nothing compared to the real thing, sinking her fangs into a precious human neck, how she yearned for it. Shaking away such thoughts she stood, pretending not to notice the looks she was shot, and the grins that were exchanged about the kitchen, the bloodlust had been too great for her, Ruby one known and admired for her grace, seen lapping up blood from the floor like a mewing kitten, but what did she care, she was still too taken by the moment.
Steadying her fast breathing the elegant vampire stalked from the kitchen heading for the dining room, serenely entering and taking a first available place at the long table, beside a slightly older vampire; Samantha who turned to her with a graceful smile, but soon began chattering incessantly to Ruby, the pair talked easily, discussing the possibility of a blood shortage and the likelihood of an increase in Lycan raids closer to home. They continued an in-depth conversation whilst awaiting the arrival of an elder Vampire; it was required as a matter of form, ridiculous in Ruby’s opinion, to wait for a vampire of 500 years before starting this main meal, usually they were quick to appear, but today they were curiously absent, probably making them wait purposefully to test or annoy them. But Ruby was fine for she’d already gotten her intake of blood to last her some time now, clearly the younger vampire next to her hadn’t as he visibly began to shake, so deep in conversation was Ruby that she didn’t notice at first, not until a clammy hand clasped her elbow. Jolting it out of reach she whirled upon the youngling, someone who was actually younger than she and was about to scold him, when she noticed his pale, wane face. “When did you last have some blood?” The incoherent, muttered answer was enough to spark her fears, pushing back her chair she gave him her arm, saying lightly, so as not to arouse so much suspicion and cast so much shame upon the youngling. “A walk before nightfall would be lovely,” trying to make it look as though she was upon his arm was difficult, in fact impossible and if other Vampires hadn’t been deep in their own conversations everyone would have noticed, as it was with the quick Samantha gliding to his other side they were able to make it to the doorway, but not through it as a figure stood in the way, instinctively Ruby and Samantha curtseyed accidentally letting the semi-conscious youngling crash down at the elder’s feet. So much for the quiet slipping away to ease embarrassment.
