History:
On the 21st of September 1794 a baby girl was born to the Yamamoto family in Fukushima, an eastern province in Japan. She was the sixth child to be born to the family and yet only the second to live (she would also have a younger brother to follow). The Edo period in Japan was a originally a very peaceful time with stability however looking in detail in the history books it is a strange statistic that between the 1720’s and then 1820’s the birth rate of Japan was zero.
Clearly children were being born, but yet they were being killed at just the same rate. Theory had it that there was Infanticide in an attempt to control the population but only those who were alive at the time would be able to explain the full motives…and Akira was. The truth was that the Japanese government were worried about the increase in the ‘unnatural ones’ and afraid what their abilities might result in. At any sign of powers or the child being different they were killed. Akira was already showing many of the signs that these mutants had (her purple eyes being an obvious sign) but due to the love of their daughter her parents could not bare to see her paraded through the streets of the capital and executed in front of the emperor like mere cattle.
That was when the life of Akira Yamamoto ended. A funeral was held, her remains placed with that of their ancestors…never did she think she would have to fake her own death; it was a sure sign that her life would be an extraordinary one.
In her in forced imprisonment Akira had nothing better to do other then improve her mind and her abilities. She could spend hours just playing with the flames and slowly she was able to make the flames bigger, control them and send balls of fire flying across the room, but yet no matter how long she held the flame or how bad the burn was she could heal herself.
After almost fifteen years in hiding Akira had read every book within a suitable distance, she was fluent in five languages (Japanese, Mandarin, English, French and Spanish) she knew she needed to escape and slowly a plan began to form in the young girls mind.
Years of boredom dragged by and it was hard to ignore the affairs of the outside world and the affect it was having on the population. The Yamamoto’s were not a rich family, neither were they poor. Mr Yamamoto was a merchant and thrived until the mid 1830’s when famine hit Japan along with a string of natural disasters, trade dropt, income fell and slowly the ill and weak died. Mrs Yamamoto was the first and with the loss of his wife Akira’s father was soon to follow. Struck by grief at the loss of her parents Akira refused to talk to anyone or even eat, she had the power to heal but could not save her parents and this guilt was soon increased with the death of her oldest brother.
He had inherited their fathers business after his death and had struggled to keep it running in the hope of providing food to put onto the family table; however in the Osaka uprising in 1837 he had tried to defend his latest cargo from the uprising peasants and fell defending the precious grain. This left Akira, a social outcast to try and look after her younger brother who had joined the army not wanting to take on the role of a tradesman. But the troubles for the Yamamoto was not over yet as once again the Japanese government was cracking down on people with abilities and although she had been declared dead twenty years ago suspicions began to circulate and Akira knew it was time for her plan to be put in place.
With the aid of her brother Akira stowed away on a trade’s ship destined for the ports in Bristol, England. That was how Akira Nakajima arrived in Britain, hidden between sacks of opium and grain never to see her home land again and ready to leave a life in the shadows and death behind.
When she arrived in Britain it was the early stages of Victorian England, it was at its industrial with the rich being richer then ever before but the poor had the opposite end of the spectrum. With no money, and only knowing the world through the books she was allowed to read Akira was entering a new world, lost and confused. It was then for the first time in her life her luck changed, fate seemed to be smiling down on her that night when she wondered down a side ally in the moon light to find a wounded man. Straight away the young and naive girl found him breathtakingly handsome and instinctively used her powers to heal his wounds and frighten away the creatures that had been chasing him.
With only romance novels as a guide to love Akira assumed herself to be so with the Lycan Demetrious. He accepted her for who she was; encouraged to use her powers, he taught her the ways of life and more importantly he acted as though he loved her. Akira found out the hard way this was not true…just as she fell pregnant with his child.
Heartbroken and betrayed Akira searched for some sort of safe house where she would be able to give birth to he child. It was a tough few months for the Japanese’s girl, it made her stronger as there was no time to be weak, no time to give up she had her unborn child to think of. It was fortunate for her that a young gentleman Thomas Higgenson took pity on her one night and allowed her to spend the last few weeks of her pregnancy in the safety of his family house in the country. He did have reason behind it all, he had head rumour that the Japanese woman could heal and control fire and Thomas wanted to learn more for he could control water.
Chihiro was born and although Thomas allowed them to stay in his home for a few extra weeks Akira knew she could not relay on his kindness for too long but he seemed reluctant to let them go. He told them about others that were like them, who could do other things and who too were shunned by society. After the death of his father and being the only living relative Thomas inherited his father fortune and city house in Manchester and the idea was formulated to create a safe house for all the people like them, a group…the Malkavians.
Slowly their numbers began to increase, those who were outcasts of society found shelter with them but yet Akira knew that they had a bigger role to play in the world other then helping out the society that had made them outcasts.
The war between the Vampires and Lycans still raged as it had done throughout centuries and Akira could not but wish for Demetrius to suffer, but deep in her heart she could not help but crave for his touch, Thomas was kind, caring and loving but Akira could not help but reach for the unreachable. The Malkavians helped members of both species as they were injured in battle as far as Akira had seen it too many people had died. But then twenty two years after the formation of the Malkavian tribe everything was going to change…they joined the war…the catalyst??? The death of Chihiro!
Although Thomas had provided the finance for the tribe he had never wanted the leadership, he was happy to stand back and watch Akira fulfil in the role and at the death of her daughter Akira knew the blood shed had to end, to end the war and stop anymore innocent lives being lost then they would have to end this! She tried the peaceful approached at first but Demetrius and Alexandria were just as stubborn as each other and neither would yield and so the Malkavians had to join the age long war the problem was that society around them was still changing.
In 1914 the First World War broke out and suddenly the fight between Vampires and Lycans seemed miniscule and pointless. The reason for the Malkavians joining the fight was to stop bloodshed but yet here was the rest of the world killing each other. Many of the younger males decided to join the British Army and use there powers for good…along with them went Thomas. Akira stayed behind and helped out in the hospitals, healing for the wounded soldiers who came home, trying to fulfil the void in her that the loss of her only daughter had provided. She was unable to do anything so save her own child, as she lay dying in her arms Akira could do nothing but cry…her abilities had failed her. That would not happen again.
In the short time of peace that filled the void between the First and the Second World War it returned to business as usual, fighting between Vampire, Lycan and Malkavian. The Malkavians numbers had been hit hard by the wars and the loss of Thomas had all but finished Akira off. She was ready to just walk into the Lycan manor all guns blazing and kill Demetrius and if that ended up being her death as well then so be it. But yet again the outside society’s own war seemed to give her purpose again in life, she had people to help, more lives to save…yet another chance to fill that void.
A problem Akira had always faced in life was being an outcast and hated by society. Over the centuries she had everything thrown at her; her powers, her purple eyes; a child out of wedlock; living with another man but never did she think that her heritage would come back to haunt her. Over the years Akira sounded British, she acted British and she counted herself and British. Japan held nothing on her anymore but it seemed others did not see it that way.
Britain was at war with Japan and as stories filled the newspapers about how the Japanese were treating the prisoners of war hostility grew towards Akira. She was taking the grunt for their actions, people she had never met in her life and here she was being heckled and discriminated because of where she was from. It seemed after 151 years things were not getting easier for her.
As peace fell once more and the World War ended once more life resumed back to normal and the war between the Vampires and Lycans needed to be stopped and deep inside she still wanted to seek revenge for her daughter’s killer. Caught in crossfire had been a saying used too much over the past years in the newspapers but rains of bullets from machine guns was not the same as almost being slashed in two and left to bleed, sometimes she saw it as paranoia but Akira could not help but believe that it was a planned attack, someone had killed Chihiro on purpose.
A woman scorned and a mother grieving was a deadly combination and as technology evolved as the outer world society grew the Malkavians grew a long with them and at the same time Akira discovered another power…she could control electricity. This kept her occupied for a while, training others like her to use this skill and many others, they needed to be strong a working unite and slowly the Malkavians numbers began to swell once more and take arms…ready for war!
