Personality: Cold and ruthless, Harold hasn’t got to where he is now by being nice to others, quite the contrary in fact. But he knows how to lead others, he isn’t completely domineering and doesn’t believe in a totalitarian way of leadership, he doesn’t just dictate, but expects those beneath him to use their own intelligence and innovation. He isn’t naturally so cold and calculating as he can appear, he cleverly acts according to the situation using his ‘skills’ to his advantage. He is intrinsically wise and thinks things through fully before committing himself, or his people.
In a way the typical general he cares little for the lives of those beneath him, so long as they get the job done the cost doesn’t much concern him, his ruthless reputation has grown from this callousness towards human life. Unlike many people in power he doesn’t do it for the money, but more because he believes in his cause, he truly believes in his work; the containment of the Vampires, Lycans and Malkavians. The power and wealth is just an added bonus, for he is a deeply driven man, determined to hold the threat, and eventually exterminate them; all of them if necessary.
Family and History: His family were wealthy aristocrats under the reign of King Henry the 8th of England, they held a reasonable slice of land upon which they built a fashionable but sturdy mansion that has unfortunately not survived the ages, as it was burnt down in mysterious circumstances. Harold soon realised he wasn’t aging at the normal rate, and that he had extraordinary abilities that he didn’t hesitate to exploit even when young, he soon became the master of the house, on his parents inevitable death, whom he’d persuaded, through mind manipulation, to believe into thinking their minds were addled and that Harold had really left long ago to start a new life in the King’s army, and that this was just a younger son, it was tricky for Harold who had nobody to aid him in nurturing his abilities, he taught himself all he knew, becoming the master of the house easily. In the year 1630 he was given disturbing reports about a small hamlet upon his lands, setting out to investigate at once he found that he wasn’t the only one with strange and special abilities. For six years he studied the inhabitants of this village, from a safe distance, until he realised that they were slowly drawing unwanted attention to themselves, which would consequently reflect upon him, and make others suspicious, stirring up rebellion in the surrounding villages he stirred them to anger and urged them to destroy these witches, he did it to save his family, for he had three sons and a beloved daughter of his own, each already showing abilities of their own. In 1636 he brought about the destruction of Luthen Crath’s village, a man he would soon become uniquely aquainted with. As Luthen learnt of Harold’s hand in the matter of his entire family’s destruction he took his revenge, burning down his house, not knowing that Harold was seeing the King and only his eldest son was home.
An anger and hatred burned so deep for Harold that day, he swore to kill Luthen then, words spoken in anger and haste. Scouring the country for Luthen he finally found him, on the white cliffs of Dover, where the two fought a terrible battle, with the stronger Harold the victor as he saw with his own eyes Luthen plummet to his death on the rocks below. His revenge complete he returned to his shallow life, now hollow without his eldest son whom he’d loved dearly, his legacy felt over before it had begun and he spurned his other children, they were never good enough in his eyes. Then he knew precisely how Luthen had felt, and realised the error of his ways.
Gaining in power and influence Harold took up a position within the newly flourishing government, working towards a better future, though he saw the fruitlessness of his labours he continued on regardless, with his unique position he was able to keep a careful watch upon what the government did and influence it how he wished, with subtleties, he was always careful and anyone who grew suspicious had their memory wiped, he became several different people throughout his life, still staying within different departments of the government, even going abroad when people became too suspicious and lying low for a while. Always he looked after his three remaining children, placing them in safety, though his wife died of old age his children shaped lives for themselves, though took his advice and kept low, moving about the country like he did.
For many years he had a rather haphazard but comfortable existence, contented to do precisely as he wished, until he was found in 1854 by a government agency, section 13. They had been monitoring him for some time and ruthlessly captured him, losing dozens of soldiers as the angered Harold burned with a terrible fury, anyone who touched him became instantly burnt, to a cinder when furious, but another individual of power was there, and was able to challenge Harold with his mind, whilst the scientists snuck beneath his guard and took him down with way ahead of their time drugs. He was kept in a secured castle, imprisoned for many years and tested upon, until he was eventually rescued by a fellow Malkavian as he’d learnt them to be; one he would never have suspected; Luthen Crath. Together they eluded the grasp of the agency who employed mercenaries to track them down, but the two were wily and managed to hide far away. They formed something of a friendship then, each worldly wise and knowing that the other had acted unjustly in their youth, it was a shaky truce.
Far away over in the United States of America, where he dwelled for several years word reached Harold from his daughter, who could stretch out with her mind and speak directly to him, even across the seas. She herself was affected by an affliction which was slowly killing her, but worse another of his sons, George she’d been unable to make any contact with, which meant he was likely dead.
Returning to England he held his daughter in his arms as she passed away, leaving her own family distraught, after having found none with any shred of ability he went in search of George. He found his remains deep within the Highlands of Scotland, later her would learn a Lycan had torn him limp from limp. With a sad and deep heaviness seeing his line crumble before him he sought out his final and youngest son, perhaps it would have been better had he not. For he found him, but found him utterly transformed, nothing like his beloved son anymore. For Algar had been bitten; by a vampire, and consequently became one, knowing what he had to do he slaughtered his own son then, he couldn’t live with the thought of his son spreading that disease as he thought it.
After the demise of his family within two years Harold was left cold and further hardened to the bitterness of life, it was then, in 1892 that a wily agent from Section 13 found him, and persuaded Harold around to joining the organisation and helping to rid the earth of these abominations, though the memories of his torture will still rife he shook his own pain aside and instead preferred to languish upon how best to gain revenge over his sons killers.
Moving up in the ranks of the agency quickly, he became an accomplished field operative, taking down several Lycans and vampires with the technology the agency developed at his disposal, devastating weaponry suited to killing those vile creatures. In 1907 he persuaded his main adversary, the one who had challenged him to a mind war and got him captured in the first place, to aid him to become the leader of the organisation, whilst they were drinking to coming success the man collapsed, some people just couldn’t handle their deadly poison. Now able to easily use his own abilities he wrested control of the organisation, driving it how he wished. He believed firmly in containment rather than outright killing, that was until orders came from above demanding he eradicate the scum of the earth, that he did by conveniently getting rid of the man who had suggested such a ludicrous idea; for he had meant Malkavians too, and that would eventually mean himself.
Harold saw the agency adapt through much change of the ages, and melded it how he wished it to be, choosing the best operatives to work in the field. It was he who engineered the master plan of containing the threat within the city of Manchester, and letting them have their battlefield, while he kept everyone in there, the masses would panic if they knew, so he had a tough time keep everything under wraps.
Yet now Government doesn’t wish to simply contain the threat, it has finished examining those captured and containment is no longer the order, obliteration is. The vampire versus Lycan war has raged long enough and now both species need be destroyed, the government demands genocide. There is seemingly no end to the bloodshed and neither side has effectually slaughtered the other, so now Harold is being unleashed to destroy those he despises. He was just being pressured by government to tackle the “little problem” as they called it, but now they agree it is a major issue so are giving him all the supplies he requires to end the fighting by an way he sees fit. Harold wishes to try reasoning with the Malkavians, whether his wishes will be respected is another matter. He has been given him extra men and resources to flush out the city he is to imprison or if not able to, kill any and all Lycans and Vampires and all this he must accomplish within the year. A tall order for any man, he knows his every move is being scrutinized and others beneath him are growing eager for power, so this is his probable final throw of the dice.
